Chianti Classico DOP Olive Oil: Gaiole in Chianti – Exploring History and Nature

Gaiole in Chianti, renowned for producing Chianti Classico DOP Olive Oil, offers trekking enthusiasts trails that blend nature and history. In this article, we’ll explore the Anello Badia a Coltibuono, a hiking route that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the enchanting landscapes of the Chianti region.

The starting point is the historic Badia a Coltibuono, located approximately 631 meters above sea level. From here, you follow a circular route of about 14.85 km, with an elevation gain of 482 meters, classified as moderately challenging.

The itinerary begins by descending along the old road from Badia, a white dirt path that leads to the hamlet of Case Lavatoio. This section is best tackled during cooler periods or in the evening hours during summer due to its exposure to the sun.

As the route continues, the trail ascends towards Case Campocorto, passing through sections with significant inclines, especially near Case Albereto and Casa La Tinaia. The terrain alternates between dirt tracks and rocky paths, with some stretches running through wooded areas.

Next, the path runs parallel to the Fosso di Calcinaia before reaching the paved road near the intersection with the SR429. From here, you climb back toward the abbey, completing the loop. The entire route offers breathtaking views of the vineyards and olive groves typical of Chianti, along with significant historical landmarks.

The Anello Badia a Coltibuono is a hiking experience that combines physical activity with the discovery of stunning landscapes and the historical heritage of the Chianti region.
